Medfödd aurikulär fistel, ( latin: congenital preauricular fistula) eller preaurikulär cysta är en vanlig medfödd missbildning som kännetecknas av en knöl, buckla eller grop belägen i anslutning till ytterörat. A preauricular sinus is a common congenital malformation characterized by a nodule, dent or dimple located anywhere adjacent to the external ear. Frequency of preauricular sinus differs depending the population: 0.1–0.9% in the US, 0.9% in the UK, and 4–10% in Asia and parts of Africa. Preauricular sinuses are inherited features, and most often appear unilaterally. They are present bilaterally in 25–50% of cases. Medfödd aurikulär fistel.

A preauricular sinus tract is probed with a blunt needle, and methylene blue dye is injected. Note the region in front of the pit, where previous abscess formation, spontaneous drainage, and Histology Pit or sinus lined with squamous epitheium. Tiny follicles open into the pit. Abstract. A congenital pit or sinus involving the ascending limb of the helix of the ear (fig. 1 a) or the preauricular region is of little importance unless it gives rise to an offensive discharge or forms a retention cyst (fig. 1 b ).

These can be a simple pit or have a sinus tract and/or cystic component.

1 b ). When infected, such a lesion is of considerable clinical significance, since drainage, extension, scarring and disfigurement are the common sequelae. Preauricular pits and sinuses – these are common, affecting 1% of the population, particularly Asians and blacks. 25% are bilateral in front of both ears. The sinus opening ( pit ) is usually located just in front of the upper part of the ear where the cartilage of the ear rim (helix) meets the facial skin. Preauricular sinuses (also known as preauricular pits or preauricular cysts) are common congenital abnormalities that are typically small blind-ended openings near the ascending limb of the helix. These can be a simple pit or have a sinus tract and/or cystic component.

Objective To determine the histologic relationship and distance between excised preauricular epithelial sinus tract and the adjacent auricular cartilage (sinocartilaginous distance) in a series of patients. The excision of preauricular sinuses is a common surgical procedure.

Recurrences are frequent and can be technically challenging. Abstract Introduction: Preauricular fistulas are not uncommon congenital disorders in children. They are associated with imperfect auricle formation as a consequence of incomplete fusion of the auditory hillocks of the first and second branchial arches.
